In Homs, the city that gave Syria Abdul Baset Al-Sarout, the goalkeeper who loved sports and believed in their power to inspire hope, Equity & Empowerment Organization proudly inaugurated Al Salam Sports Club for Persons with Disabilities following the completion of its rehabilitation and renovation.
The opening ceremony was attended by Eng. Iyad Jaafar, Director of Social Affairs and Labour in Homs, Mr. Saeed Abdul Mawla, Head of the Individual Sports Office at the Directorate of Sports and Youth in Homs, Mr. Bashar Al-Sibai, President of the Homs Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Mazen, Head of the Paralympic Technical Committee, and Mr. Basel Al-Hassami, Chairman of Al-Rajaa Association for Persons with Disabilities, alongside representatives of civil society organizations, community initiatives, and local stakeholders.
During the event, participants highlighted the importance of supporting and empowering persons with disabilities and promoting their full inclusion in community life. The ceremony also featured a number of sports performances by club members, including table tennis, wheelchair basketball, badminton, and a chess match for visually impaired players, demonstrating remarkable determination, talent, and resilience.
Equity & Empowerment extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Talat Sheikh Othman, the organization’s representative in Homs Governorate, for his dedication, continuous follow-up, and invaluable contribution throughout all stages of the rehabilitation process, helping transform this initiative into a reality that will benefit the club and its athletes for years to come.
We also extend our gratitude to the management and members of Al Salam Sports Club, to Khalid Bin Al-Walid Association for their beautiful mural artwork within the club, and to all public institutions, community actors, and supporters who contributed to the success of this initiative.
