Horizon (Ufuq) for Empowering Women in Northwest Syria

Driven by our belief that there are no limits to women’s capabilities and potential, Equity and Empowerment launched the “Ufuq” project as a step towards expanding the horizons of women’s abilities in the northwest Syria region. The first training under this project was car driving lessons, marking a groundbreaking initiative in northern Syria.

Given its special significance, this training attracted a large number of women eager to learn. In the past, driving was not considered a necessary skill for women in traditional communities. However, the current circumstances, which have forced many women into the role of primary breadwinner due to the loss of a husband or father, have made this skill an urgent necessity.

The overwhelming response to this training reflects the women’s passion for learning and their desire to overcome the barriers that stand in their way. In the face of social restrictions that limit women’s movement and confine them to specific roles, this training serves as a new window that opens up a wider field of freedom and independence for them. Driving not only enables women to move freely but also opens new opportunities for employment and economic participation, thereby enhancing their ability to support their families and contribute to community building.

Through the “Ufuq” project, Equity and Empowerment aims not only to provide practical skills but also to change traditional perceptions of women’s roles in society. The project encourages women to break social barriers and challenge the stereotypes that confine them to specific roles. It is an invitation for women to discover their true potential and strive to achieve their dreams, no matter the circumstances surrounding them.
