women peace and security

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) Agenda in the Asia-Pacific region, we celebrate the achievements of women in building peace and leading change in their communities.

Through women’s involvement in conflict prevention, crisis resolution, and post-conflict recovery, women have proven to be essential in achieving sustainable peace. Despite ongoing challenges, including humanitarian crises and new security threats, efforts from UN Women and civil society organizations continue to support the realization of the agenda’s goals in promoting women’s equal participation in all peace and security processes.

🔑 The four pillars of the WPS Agenda:
1. Participation: Ensuring women have a voice in peace processes.
2. Prevention: Working to prevent conflict and protect women and girls from violence.
3. Protection: Ensuring women’s safety in times of crisis.

4. Relief and Recovery: Empowering women to rebuild their communities after conflict.

Over the years, National Action Plans have been adopted in 13 countries across Asia and the Pacific, reflecting the commitment of governments and peoples to empower women to lead peace processes.

🌟 The role of women in the region is irreplaceable. From community leaders in Thailand to activists in the Philippines and Nepal, women continue to show strength and the ability to make a difference, even in the most difficult circumstances.

Here’s to continuing our work for a more equal and peaceful world
