Economic Roles of Syrian Women After the War

The uprising in Syria has significantly impacted all aspects of life in society, particularly in areas that are no longer under the control of the Syrian regime. The effects of the war have touched all segments of society, leading to changes in the social structure and influencing traditions, particularly regarding the distribution of roles between men and women.

This study is crucial in understanding the shifts in the economic roles of women, focusing on how the war has altered their roles in Idlib governorate, located in northwest Syria.

As an exploratory study, it employed case studies to gain in-depth insights into the economic roles of women. Twenty case studies were conducted, focusing on two main groups: women working for others and women who own businesses.

The research objectives of the study are as follows:

  • To identify the economic role played by Syrian women after the war.
  • To understand the changes that have occurred in Syrian women’s economic roles.
  • To assess the community’s acceptance of women’s economic roles.
  • To explore the difficulties faced by Syrian women while performing these economic roles.

This study was prepared by the Equity and Empowerment Organization, in collaboration with the Shaan Center for Women’s Studies and Research.
