The means of communication have evolved over the years to their current state, characterized by speed, wide reach, and virtual social interaction. The internet, as a prominent tool of communication, has enhanced opportunities for learning, gaining experience, and acquiring new skills.
However, as with any technological advancement, there is no purely positive change. Technology has also been exploited as a coercive tool to increase social injustice, and women, who have long struggled to secure their rights, have faced both the positive aspects of internet development and its darker side, where it has been used as a weapon for practicing gender-based violence in its digital form.
This research focuses on Idlib and its surrounding rural areas, regions that have suffered from the effects of war, leading to a breakdown of their social fabric. In these areas, incidents of digital violence against women have surged.
This study is descriptive exploratory research, aiming to describe the phenomenon in a specific area while gathering the opinions of experts, public workers, and civil society activists involved in social issues within Idlib city and its rural areas.
In addition, the study includes individual case studies through in-depth interviews and data collection related to the cases under examination.
